(1)
Do you and
your family members enjoy snow sports? – Yes, you can enjoy the
snow in the winter, build a snowman or engage in a snowball fight
here as well as at home but remember Wolf Laurel at almost one mile
high receives on average of four times more snow than nearby
Asheville's 14 inches annually way down in the valley. Here you can
experience the excitement of our expanding Wolf Laurel slopes on
skis or snowboard right in your own neighborhood. Other quieter
winter time attractions are winter hiking, cross-country skiing and
snowshoeing on the adjacent Big Bald Mountain at an elevation over
5,500 feet. Of course, your children and grandchildren will get
plenty of use for their sleds and they may become addicted to our
snow tubing slopes. Winter is a fun time for snow lovers of all ages
in our high mountains.
(2) Is summertime fun & outdoor mountain activities high on your list of family priorities? – How about a round of golf at one of the highest elevation courses east of the Rocky Mountains or a fun game of tennis where you are left breathless by the views instead of southern heat and humidity. For swimming, we recommend a heated pool at this elevation unless you want to take a dip or inner tube, canoe or whitewater raft down the French Broad River a few miles away and 3,000 feet down below our resort. Or try several other relaxing and solitary pursuits including horseback riding to enjoy our 360 degree views, fly fishing, rock climbing, mountain camping and more. Finally, don’t forget our first class mountain bike trails where you’ll have the opportunity to thankfully take the lift up to the top and then you are on your own all the way back down. All of these recreational activities and more are available in the area but some will require your membership in specific resort club and or amenities programs.
(3) Do you sometimes get tired of cooking? – In the summer and winter, walk or drive to the new Top of the Slope mountain restaurant located in the magnificent timber, log and glass ski lodge at nearby Wolf Ridge Resort. Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner with breathtaking long-range views in the 22,000 square foot structure with a soaring 40-foot roofline. Also you can choose one of the 6 other restaurants nearby or drive the 30 minutes to sample one of many fine dining establishments, the arts and nighttime entertainment in nearby Asheville, recently described as the “Paris of the South” in Blue Ridge Country magazine. Most important, join and enjoy the Wolf Laurel Country Club where the Austrian chef guarantees the food and the ambiance of the lounge and restaurant is unmatched in the area.
(4) Do You Like to Take Walks? - Forget the sidewalks as here we have miles of hiking trails with gorgeous scenery, wild flowers, butterfly habitats plus all the animal life you would expect in a region bordering tens of thousands of acres of national forest.
(5) Are you interested in taking long hikes? – Do you know anyone that has the 2,000 mile historic Appalachian Trail in their backyard? It is just a short hike to the AT and Big Bald Mountain at 5, 516 feet from here on our mountain.
(6) Do you like for your friends and family to come for a quick visit? - If you decide to build or purchase an existing residence up here, we suggest you add at least one extra bedroom over your immediate family needs because our experience is friends, family, children and grandchildren will visit more often and stay longer. Here you are living just outside of Asheville but many residents explain the main problem in our resort location is often too many friends and family come to visit and they stay too long so don't worry about being lonely up here.
(7) Do you or family members sometimes enjoy a night out on the town? – Here you are 30 quick minutes by interstate highway from all the nightlife, entertainment, arts, cultural activities, shopping and world class restaurants in Asheville, NC, now one of America's leading tourist destinations.
(8) Would you like to have more private time for yourself and those you love? - Imagine for a moment if you could have the peace, quiet and privacy to just curl up with a good book or that special someone you love? Here you can be as busy or social as you want or get away from all the distractions of life and spend some quality time with yourself and others who you care for.
(9) Do you ever get tired of worrying about where your children are & what they are doing? - In the rural mountains of Western North Carolina the respected family values of honor, home, hearth and traditions still take precedence over many of the new ideas and concepts sweeping through the the fast-paced and changing suburban areas today. Here peer pressure, petty crime and the generation gap are often held in check by tried and true values and a spirit of community that has sometimes been lost elsewhere. You'll discover the sometimes negative feelings of concern about where your children or grandchildren are and what they are doing is replaced with a desire to join them. Are they playing in the kid's video game room or play area in the lodge or will you find them on a hike, swimming, playing basketball, fishing, mountain biking, or playing tennis or golf? In the winter they will often be snowboarding on the slopes or on the tubing run so tracking them down will be a little easier. Still, here at Wolf Laurel the easiest way to find your children is to either look out your balcony or ask a neighbor. We all pull together in these mountains and our resort area has the old-time atmosphere of small village living in a big mountain community.
Particularly For Asheville Area Residents & Those Of You Planning To Move Here
(10) Is your daily Asheville work commute getting you down? – How well we remember the daily grind. You leave the office around 5:00 and then battle the stress of traffic jams, traffic lights and backed-up merging lanes until you turn into your home neighborhood. On many days, the frustration of the commute actually exceeds the job stress and this can destroy your entire evening at home. What’s worse, you know you have to do this again tomorrow and the next day and the next....
(11) Are
you ready to consider a positive change in lifestyle?
– Imagine a peaceful commute home without a single stoplight and one stop
sign after leaving downtown Asheville. Your frustrating views of
stalled traffic are replaced with scenic mountain vistas as you are
transported by 4 and 6 lane freeway to a world away from and above
downtown Asheville.
We suggest you
time the drive from home to work and from work to home at rush hour
and then compare your travel time each way to the drive to and from
Wolf Laurel. You may discover the time spent in commuting will be
far less with a home in our high mountain resort community than from
the popular South Asheville suburban communities.
(12) Do you really love the mountains and desire to make this place your home? Are you the type of person who enjoys our mountains for more than just the magnificent views and closeness to nature? If these beautiful natural surroundings do provide you the sense of peace, freedom and quiet enjoyment you are seeking, then consider the opportunities here. But remember, true peace follows a quiet respect for those who might be a little different from you, with freedom comes responsibility and quiet enjoyment sometimes is best obtained by the laid back attitude and lifestyle you will find here with your new Carolina mountain neighbors.
