Location Is Everything

Imagine your mountain home or retreat in the perfect location. It is protected, private but in the center of all high mountain activities with almost 5,000 acres of protected environment, wilderness and peaceful views in the middle of the fastest growing mountain resort region in the South.

Highway Location: Wolf Laurel Resort spans two counties Madison and Yancey here in North Carolina and the resort also borders the Tennessee state line and the Appalachian Trail. The entrance is through beautiful Madison County just 4.5 miles from Exit 4 on the I-26 interstate highway.

Resort Location: Wolf Laurel Resort is located in the center of the Big Bald Highland region which starts at Burnsville and Mountain Air Country Club in the east, through The Preserve at Wolf Laurel, Wolf Laurel Resort, Wolf Laurel Ski Resort, Scenic Wolf Ridge Resort, Breakaway Village and Mars Hill where Mars Hill College is located. The 4-year college is a great cultural and education asset to Wolf Laurel Resort and Madison County and click on the link for more information.

The almost 5,000 acres of Wolf Laurel is perfectly positioned in the center of the Big Bald Highlands region of North Carolina, almost exactly halfway between Asheville and Johnson City (and their respective airports) and the smaller mountain towns of Mars Hill and Burnsville.

In addition, to the east is the outstanding Mountain Air Country Club, one of the finest golfing resorts in the entire country. On our northern boundary is national forest and a section of the 2,200 mile long Appalachian Trail. On our western side is Wolf Laurel Ski Resort, the Wolf Ridge Resort with the very popular Lodge at Wolf Ridge Steaks & Ribs Restaurant, that is western North Carolina's only family dining and entertainment experience. Just past Wolf Ridge is the new planned Breakaway Village that will offer a unique planned village experience here in our mountains.

The Center of All High Mountain Activities: Here in the resort we have a private "members only" golf course, restaurant and lounge at the country club. In the village, a playground, heated pool, basketball court, pavilion, library, a wide range of summer events and activities including a kids camp and tennis courts are open to members of the Village Amenities Program. Wolf Laurel Resort also has a growing equestrian program with lessons for all levels and over 20 miles of horse trails. In addition, our private hiking trails access the Appalachian Trail at several locations. During the winter, the ski resort has skiing, snowboarding and tubing right next to Wolf Laurel Resort and there are 8 mountain ski resorts within 90 miles of Asheville. For more information on the wide range of ski slopes and resorts available nearby, please click to The Ski Asheville website.

In the Middle of Mountain Tourist Activities: There are a wide range of whitewater activities from canoeing, rafting andBIltmore Estate tubing down the many rivers in the area, to trout fishing and waterfalls. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a few minutes away and great shopping is available in Asheville as well as many varied cultural activities. If you like trains, the Great Smoky Mountains Railway is a little over an hour away, as is the gambling casino in Cherokee. In Asheville, all tourist and residents should make a visit to the historic Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa as well as The Biltmore Estate and winery. For younger kids, Gatlinburg in Tennessee is not to be missed. There is also a fun canoe trip down the French Broad River through the Biltmore Estate suitable for children available during the summer months.

Just Outside of Asheville  - Asheville is now one of the leading tourist destinations in the entire South with a tremendous amount of interest in the downtown bars, restaurants, activities, culture, shopping and nightlife. In addition, The Grove Park Inn, the Biltmore Estate and the surrounding mountains bring millions of visitors each year.
