Appalachian Trail A 2,174-mile footpath along the ridgecrests and across the major valleys of the Appalachian Mountains from Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in northern Georgia. Enjoyed by day, weekend and other short-term hikers, and section or thru-hikers who hike the entire length of the trail in one season. Click here to download the trail map.
Blue Ridge Parkway Favorites
Mt. Pisgah Hike to the trail to the summit for a fantastic panoramic view of Western North Carolina. The trail gains 712 ft in elevation so it can be strenuous but well worth the trip. Be sure to plan a stop by the Pisgah Inn to take in the views, visit their craft and gift shop or to enjoy a nice meal. Milepost 407.6
Mt. Mitchell This is the tallest peak (6,684ft) east of the Mississippi. You can enjoy the observation tower, exhibit hall, nice trail hiking and there's even a restaurant open May through October. Hike the Deep Gap Trail which will keep you above 6,000 feet but remember to bring a jacket - it can be at least 10-30 degrees cooler than Asheville. Milepost 355
Graveyard Fields The Upper Falls Trail is a fairly easy hike along the river and through the meadow with nice waterfalls at the end. There's a nice parking area but can be full as this is a pretty popular area. Milepost 318.8
