Wolf Laurel is the South's Most Accessible Four-Season Mountain Resort

Just Getting Here Makes All the Difference in the World

We all know half the fun of a vacation is getting there and you will find your next visit, vacation, ski trip or permanent move to Wolf Laurel quite different from what you may be used to at other NC resorts.

Get Here Faster – (Visit Wolf Laurel & the Preserve at Wolf Laurel and Save 2 Hours Total Driving Time.) If you are driving to NC’s other high mountain resort area up in Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk from points South, remember we are now at least one hour closer during low traffic periods. More importantly, I’m sure you remember how this can more than double or triple during peak holiday traffic and bad winter weather.

Enjoy the Trip More – (See the Mountains From the Freeway Instead of the Stalled Line of Traffic Blocking Your View & Delaying Your Trip.)  If you love the mountains like we do, you also have experienced the delays and traffic jams just when you were close to your mountain destination. In the winter, you are ready to hit the slopes but snow covered, narrow and dangerous two lane roads are blocked by jack knifed 18 wheelers and others who don’t have a clue as to how to drive in the snow. The same at peak holiday weekends and during leaf season as the two lane roads are clogged by trucks forced to drive up and down the steep, winding roads in low gear combined with thousands of drivers more interested in looking than getting anywhere. These interminable delays, slow traffic and diesel fumes can combine to spoil the last hour or “hours” of your trip to the mountains not to mention the ride back home. We are an Interstate Highway accessible resort so you can forget the long-distance travel by two lane mountain highways when you visit us here at Wolf Laurel.

Get Here Cheaper – (Visit Wolf Laurel & Save $12 On Each Trip.) Convenience and Interstate Highway accessibility are very important with today’s rising gas prices. The extra 45 to 60 miles to the Boone area, can translate into 6 or more extra $2.00 per gallon gas.

Easy Car & Air Access – (A No Stop Light Resort) Where else in United States can you drive to a ski resort without even one stop light delay? Also you have a choice of two nearby airports with a direct 4 lane freeway to the Wolf Laurel exit #3 with your choice of two airports less than an hour trip from both the Asheville, NC and Tri-Cities Airport in TN.

The Most Accessible Ski Resort In the South - From Florida, Atlanta, Greenville/Spartanburg and points East, South and West, our slopes are less than 4 miles off new Interstate I-26.  Visit Wolf Laurel and forget about traffic delays and narrow mountain roads forever.

Hiking To Wolf Laurel – We receive visitors hiking all or portions of the Appalachian Trail all year round who backpack into the resort. Like all mountain resorts we have our own hiking trails but few can offer you direct trail access to and from the 2,000 plus miles of the Appalachian trail stretching from Georgia to Maine. In addition some of the most spectacular full 360 degree views and terrain on the entire Appalachian Trail and east of the Rockies are just steps from Wolf Laurel on Big Bald Mountain elevation 5,516 feet towering over the resort.

Biking To Wolf Laurel – The completion of I-26 means the old heavily trafficked two lane highway 23 formerly connecting Asheville and Johnson City and a tremendous amount of North and South traffic from the Midwest over Sams Gap has been rerouted to the new interstate. This has thankfully transformed highway 23 into a lonely rural byway perfect for bicyclers wanting to enjoy the beautiful scenery and views of the region. Again we are just over 4 miles off the old highway as well as the Interstate exit.

Now A Short Commute From Downtown Asheville – If you live and work in or near Asheville, consider taking the Wolf Laurel Driving Test as you may discover your commute to work and home from Wolf Laurel may be quicker and far less stressful than the rush hour race you now face twice each day. To take the test, schedule your trip home to Wolf Laurel when you normally leave work and also do the same from our high mountain resort location in the morning for your drive to work. Many commuters will find our convenient new Interstate Highway location at exit 3, just 24 freeway miles from Asheville is half the commuting time you now spend in heavy traffic, crowded exit ramps and numerous stop lights currently between your office and home.

Will You Soon Be Flying To Wolf Laurel? – According to the September 8th, 2004 issue of the News-Record & Sentinel, plans underway for a top of the mountain airport with a runway 150 feet wide and 3,600 feet long, suitable for small planes and jets if approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and other regulatory agencies. This mountain top airport at near 4,500 feet elevation will allow private pilots including small jets the opportunity to land here at Wolf Laurel.
